Three Effective Exfoliating Methods For Treating Acne Scars

Exfoliation is great for the skin and effective acne treatment; exfoliation is essential especially for acne scar removal. However, people make the mistake of over-exfoliating or going about exfoliating the wrong way which causes more problems to their skin. A basic fact is that over-exfoliating will not make your skin clearer and when you have acne, find out the best ways to go about exfoliating your skin below;

  • Avoid using a granular scrub for exfoliating during acne treatment. A granular scrub can tear up your skin and create more entry points for more infection. Scrubbing your skin can also irritate an acne-prone skin which leads to redness of the skin.
  • Choose a chemical exfoliant to break dead skin cells loose. An example of a chemical exfoliant is Glycolic Acid, and it is capable of loosening the adhesive bonds tying dead skin cells together, and it scrubs off the outer layer of the skin. Glycolic acid is gotten primarily from sugar cane, and it is considered an Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
  • Exfoliation should not be a daily thing. If you have the sensitive type of skin, you should only exfoliate about once or twice every week depending on how tolerant your skin is. Some other types of skin can exfoliate more than twice in one week. Find out what your skin can take so you can know what exactly works for you.
